Jail time reduced for gangster in baby shooting | Canada | News | Toronto Sun: "Alberta's highest court has reduced the sentence of a Hobbema gangster who wounded a 23-month-old girl in a drive-by shooting on the Samson Cree Nation reserve.
Christopher Shane Crane, 20, had been sentenced to nine years in prison after pleading guilty to aggravated assault, robbery with a firearm and two gun charges in connection with the April 13, 2008, shooting that left Asia Saddleback with a stray bullet lodged near her heart.
However, in a decision released Wednesday, the Court of Appeal of Alberta lowered the sentence to seven years after finding the trial judge erred in his sentencing.
Court heard the charges stemmed from two separate events on the same day, the robbery of a marijuana dealer and the shooting of Saddleback.
Crane had been drinking with two other men as part of his 18th birthday celebrations and at 7 p.m. one of them drove Crane to the dealer's house to rob him of his wares.
Crane had a loaded sawed-off .22-calibre rifle which he used during the robbery to threaten the dealer, fire into a wall and hit him on the nose."
