The organized crime unit of the Winnipeg Police Service is investigating a Thursday morning shooting incident at a four-plex in the city's West End.

Several shots were fired just before 5 a.m. at the building in the area of Notre Dame and Ingersoll Street, a restaurant worker in the area told CBC News.

There have been no reports of any injuries, and no arrests have been made.

Police have not made a connection between the incident and the current turf war between the Hells Angels and Rock Machine motorcycle gangs.

However, a police spokeswoman said there have been several fights over the drug trade this summer fall that didn't involve those gangs.

"There's been a number of feuds or disputes," Const. Natalie Aitken said, "so that's not something … we've been able to confirm in terms of associations yet.

"It's not something we can confirm but as these investigations go on with the organized crime unit there is a likelihood that it is going to be either gang- or drug-related or both."

Neighbour Diane Mikolash said she has seen officers going to suites in the building many times.

"I guess it usually had to do with drugs," she said. "I am scared to say too much."

Investigators closed a portion of Ingersoll to traffic as they scoured the area for shell casings and other evidence.
